We charge by the hour.
We do this because of the documentation we specialise in:
- Business — and, more particularly, C-suite — PDFs, both standard and interactive, often contain complex combinations of text & graphics, and of headings & sub-headings.
- It’s not practical to charge these kinds of documents by page or word count. Some pages have relatively little content; others, meanwhile, have very detailed explanations of challenging processes.
- If we apply the same principles to other kinds of documentation and to the more interactive and video-based content, it’s even clearer that it could take quite some time to work out how much to quote, for what might take less in practice to actually deliver.
An approximate idea, then …
A reasonably complex PDF — with graphics, interactive content and tabs, detailed explanations on some pages, and internal and external links which need testing for “clickability” and relevance — takes between 3 to 4 hours to proofread and quality check.
Price/hour
We charge £50/hour for this kind of documentation on a one-off basis.
And you always choose
But we always give you options which respect your particular circumstances and those of the content you’d like us to proofread and quality check.
To this end, we use three levels of proofing:
- Level 1 proofing limits itself to spelling and grammar.
- Level 2 proofing includes level 1, plus “readability” and flow.
- Level 3 proofing includes levels 1 and 2, plus internal/external links — for “clickability” and relevance — as well as the content of graphics such as labels, text within a graphic, and so forth.
The only difference between the three is the time it takes to complete the proofing and quality-checking process.
As we charge by hour, the choice of which level of proofing will be conditioned by two things:
- budgetary constraints on your side; and
- the quality of the copy when it reaches us, on our side.
Discounts
Regular volumes and customers for our services will receive discounts, as per normal business practice.
Reworking in a collaborative environment
If reworking is needed — good publishing is, manifestly, a collaborative process after all, and the more hands a marketing asset goes through, the better the outcome always — then one such reworking is included for all jobs delivered, in the above fees.
